Taxes, Taxes

The past two weeks I have been hard at work on our income taxes. With two self-employed businesses in our family, it takes me awhile to go through all the receipts and paperwork. Our college student daughter has been prompting me to get them done so she can file her FAFSA. I'm looking forward to finishing them up and getting back to my writing.

Did you know that Americans have been filing income taxes for 100 years now? In 1913 the Sixteenth Amendment granted Congress the right to levy an income tax. When the Bureau of Internal Revenue printed its first 1040, the form was three pages with one page of instructions. We've come a long way since then, baby.

What about you? Do you try to finish your income taxes early or do you prefer to wait until the deadline to file?
