This past weekend our family drove up to Chase County for the Flint Hills Folklife Festival held in Cottonwood Falls. This was also the Symphony in the Flint Hills weekend, so there were a lot of people in town. It's always such a joy to visit this area. We didn't do any backroad driving this time, but here are a few pictures from our weekend.
Singing in Cottonwood Falls Friday night on the Courthouse Lawn.
A few pictures from the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve near Strong City. Stephen Jones built the Spring Hill Ranch in the 1870's.
Note the three story barn, made from native limestone.
Here is a picture of the Jones' Second Empire style ranch house that overlooks Fox Creek Valley. He also built a neighborhood school that sits a mile from the house.
There are many other buildings on the ranch but I love this family outhouse!
I so wish I would have had my camera with me when we walked through all the craft booths on the courthouse lawn Saturday afternoon. There were broom makers, soap makers, basket weavers, and so many more craftsmen--all dressed in old time attire and many offering demonstrations. Such fun.
Here are the girls singing in Cottonwood Falls Saturday night on hay bales under the trees on the courthouse lawn. All in all, it was a great weekend.
It's cool and rainy this morning, and our oldest daughter and her husband are on the last leg of their move back to Kansas! It's a good day! Enjoy the moments . . .
